The scene starts when Tan drove back to get ES..
Tan: “Do you want to go to my house?”
ES: Are you safer than here?
Tan: I don’t know if I am safer but my house is better than here. What are going to do? Are you coming?
ES enters Tan’s luxurious house, her mouth gaping widely.
ES: what about family? Do you live alone here?
ES: are you a drug dealer? What do you do?
Tan walk towards ES, she bumped to a wall: why do you think I am only a drug dealer? Do you still have two kidneys?
ES up against wall. Tan: Your room. Call me if you need anything.
ES massages her tired body. She recalls back to her earlier encounter with her sister.
Her stomach grumbles. She cautiously opens her door room. Tan is packing his bag in the study room. He heard footsteps. He sees her creeping around in her house in the dark.
ES opens the refrigerator. She only sees American and canned things. She is eating in the dark when Tan turns on the lights.
Tan: what are you doing in the dark? ES: I’m sorry I ate without permission. I only ate expired things. Here is the money.
Tan: aren’t you going to clean this up? Stares at her.
Tan: what’s your name?
ES: Thank you for before.
Tan: that’s a long name. He tells her he is paying her back for the powder that she was going to give it to her sister.
Won and Jae Ho having conversation. Won wants to know who Jae Ho works for, him or the CEO. Jae Ho: I work for Jeguk.
Won: You don’t get scared. My father taught you badly.
CEO: I realize now that health is the best thing. You should take care of yourself too.
Ji Sook: Don’t be nice. I’m not going to leave the family.
CEO: You’re the one who brought Tan’s mom in. I want her to be in the palm of my hand.
Ki Ae is outside trying to listen in. Won catches her eavesdropping.
Ki Ae: “Your mother is here.”
Won: I have no mom in this house.
Ki Ae: Yes, the ahjumma who raised you.
Ji Sook: You never say hi first. I raised you ten years before you left for America. I didn’t take care of you affectionately but I did diligently.
Won: Thanks.
CEO tells Won to bring Tan to this meeting since the Americans think family is the most important. Won: I will do what I did.
CEO: This isn’t your company yet.
Ki Ae wants to know if Ji Sook is meeting Ra Hael’s family. Ji Sook reminds her that she is Tan’s mother.
Back to Tan's room, Tan’s voice: Another woman’s bag. Another woman’s man. A woman who always wanted something from another woman and is miserable her whole life. That person is…the phone ringing..it's his mother..
ES calling her Mom informing that her sister is doing well.
ES: Don’t worry about me.
Tan overheard. He holds sandwiches in his hand.
Tan opens door.
ES: don’t you knock?
Tan knocks. Tan tells her that food is good for her kidney.
ES: Don’t joke around like that. He lets her know that he heard her conversation with her mother.
ES wants to pay for the food. But Tan refuse.
ES: This is for the room. It’s a dream catcher. Good dreams come through that whole.
Tan: what about pretty woman?
Tan took the other half of sandwich. He hangs the dream catcher to his SURFER BOY hanger and smiles. While outside and he can see ES inside the room, creating a fortress against the door. ES starts to change and Tan coughs in surprise. He rushes off. He brushes past the catcher.
It’s morning. ES steps outside and walk towards the pool. This house is gorgeous.
Tan sees ES standing outside. He watches her. She turns around and their eyes catch. She bows to him and stops midway, embarrassed. Tan falls in love..
He clears his throat as he comes down the stairs.. Tan is on his way to school. He cracks some jokes. ES laughs.
Tan: You’re laughing again. It means you normally laugh a lot.
ES wants to leave with him to go to sister but Tan explains that the diner is still closed. She can stay in house. He invites her to go to school with him.
Inside car, the sunlight is blocking ES view so Tan offers her sunglasses.
ES: I’m going to put my hand outside the window. If you are embarrassed, let me know. Tan: Just one minute.
Tan in class. ES is sitting on the bench outside.
ES looks around at the other students.
The Professor is giving his lecture about talks about the prettiest English word in the world. It's mother. Tan writes it down on his notepad. Saddest English word?
ES looks through her mother’s notepad. Perhaps the saddest English word for her is dry cleaning.
Professor asked Tan to hand in his essay but he turn it down.
ES is not at the bench. Tan looks for her, worried. ES is watching Korean Americans talking about some party at night with a bit sadness in her face.
Tan: what you are looking at? ES: Kids who met good parents.
ES is determined to go back to her sister.
ES:“please take care of my things until then. Goodbye. Since this is America.
Tan: Do you know where you are going?
ES: That way. (Wrong way!!)
Tan grabs her and takes her to diner place. He wants to skip class anyway. Math. ES says she likes math.
Tan: You’re crazy.
At the diner they found out that her sister has left. Her boyfriend showed up. It was later found out that Stella also took his money. He scream at ES calling her bitch! Tan stops the man.
Tan:I’m going to count to three..Es just grabs his hand and starts to run.
The other guys can’t possibly catch up and Tan is running at a slow jog. They stop to banter with the guys. Tan gets a call from Ra Hael. He ignores it. For some reason he tells ES that he is getting an order for drugs. They need to run now.
Ra Hael can’t get in contact with Tan. One incoming call, it her Mom.
YD is at the hotel to do dishes. He is forced to do this every summer. Manager tells him he is doing it wrong. YD doesn’t like this. He threatens him that he will become boss in ten years. The manager needs to watch out.
Lee Hyo Shin is having lunch with his family and they are all pressuring him to do well in school and keep up his ranking country-wide. YD comes in to say high to Hyo Shin’s family. Hyo Shin is one year older than YD.
YD serves the family water. He fills HS’s cup. “It seems you are very thirsty.”(seems that they are not in good terms)
YD’s home is in the hotel. HS comes to room.
HS: Let me use your bathroom. HS pukes into the toilet.
YD: was the food okay?
HS: thanks for letting me use the toilet. I don’t want to get caught by dad.
YD: You’ve been caught several times by me.
Back to ES and Tan..they are at a park (I guess) ES bought coffee.
ES: so you sold the organic drugs?
ES is happy to drink Americano in America. She wants to create good memories.
TAN: You only have bad memories?
ES borrows TAN’s phone to text someone. Tan wants to know if boyfriend. ES says boy…friend. ES is texting Yoon Chan Young. They return back home by taxi.
Inside taxi, ES keeps looking at Tan;s hp to check whether any message received.. ES says she trusts her friend; since she’s known him half her life.
Tan gives the home key to ES. He is going back to get the car at the beach.
Inside taxi, Tan can see ES’s SMS/Twitter account. He learns that her name is Cha Eun Sung. He reads through her status reports. She likes Freddy, Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Tan sees she is working part time all the time. He sees Chan Young’s face. He seems to be getting a little jealous. “They can’t just be friends.” Tan sees one final text. “My mom is having a hard time. I hope Jeguk group goes under.”
While in the car, the policeman Tan gave Tan ES's passport and saying that there was misunderstanding. Tan: This is not the first time..
BN is complaining that she can’t get in contact with CY. MS teases her. YD is here too. MS is heir to law firm but he is not smart. YD teases her saying she is pretty. MS seems to be on edge.
BN is jealous about everything. CY is sweet with her know. She sent message. CY says he hasn’t been checking. BN wants her too. So he does and he finally sees ES’s message.
Inside Tan’s house, ES is about to leave but RH is here with groceries.
ES: Who are you?
RH: that is my questions. Who are you?
RH: I am this the fiancee of this house owner.
RH learns that ES slept one night in this house. . RH is jealous about the key and knocks the suitcase. ES’ suitcase cracks. ES explains that she there is nothing to be angry about but RH is just a bitch.
ES: I’ll leave quietly because the house owner was nice.
RH doesn’t permit ES to leave without checking if ES did stole anything.
ES: what if I didn’t take anything?
RH: That can’t be. ES open’s suitcase.
RH turns over suitcase. “Go. Make sure to take your trash with your.”
ES packs up. She sits at the harbor with her suitcase and looks at the happy families. ES gets up and walks away.
BN is pacing because CY hasn’t answered her message of her crying face. YD says men like sexy things rather than a crying face. YD says she should just date MS. The three joke around like real high school kids.
MS mentions Tan, that RH went to Tan. Both YD and BN are uncomfortable hearing that name. MS is stronger than YD.
ES tries to buy ticket back to Korea. She realizes she has not passport and short of money.
At Tan's house...Tan asks RH about ES.
Tan says he got engaged to RH so he doesn’t have to marry her later.
ES is back at Tan's house (for the passport). Tan gets the door. She tries to leave but Tan stops her.
RH lied that she threw out ES’s passport in the trash. Before Tan can say he has her passport, ES goes to dig through trash.
Inside house RH sees CY’s message to ES.
Tan sees ES dig through trash.
Tan: “It’s not there.”
ES: Yes, it’s not here. I can’t find it.
Tan: are you crying?
ES: I came to the US to live better but I am here next to the trash.
Tan: I’m sorry.
ES: Why would you be sorry?
Couple of kids show up. They are looking for Tan and ES. This time Tan grabbed ES hand and run, chased through the city. They run into a theater.
ES looks around in theater.
Tan: stop watching so many weird movies.
ES: are you really a drug dealer?
Tan: I’m don’t live life that rashly.
ES can’t understand the movie. Tan starting to translate but he veers into his own version.
Tan: I met a girl named Eun Sang yesterday.
ES: how do you know my name?
Tan: Is it that I like you?
Waiting patiently for next week...
