The Heirs - Episode 4 Recap

 

ES walks into airport to see Rachel hugging Tan. She turns to leave, but Tan sees her and calls out to her.
Tan: “Cha Eun Sang, stop right there.”
Eun Sang turns around. Tan says bye to Rachel, and walks over to Eun Sang, Rachel completely forgotten. Tan yells at Eun Sang for not calling. He wants her number from her. Eun Sang looks at Rachel. She says to Tan that she thanked him and already said bye so don’t leave his fiancé like that to ask her something like that. Eun Sang walks past Tan and Rachel. He surely is sad of her statement.

Inside the plane, Rachel goes to Eun Sang who is filling out the entry form. Rachel is waiting for Eun Sang to finishing filling out the form. Rachel thinks she will see Eun Sang again. Eun Sang says they will not. Rachel  says something sad will happen and she (or Tan?) will want to see Eun Sang. Rachel takes the form with Eun Sang’s info.

 

The stewardess won’t let Eun Sang go to the front of the plane where Rachel is sitting to get back her entry form.

Young Do is waiting for Rachel at the airport, holding a sarcastic sign welcoming his “stepsister.” The two fight, both unhappy to see each other.

 

 Inside car, Young Do and Rachel fight over the music playing.  Rachel says, “You must be curious about Tan. He is doing well.” She told Tan that Young Do is doing well too, like “the fox acting like he is the tiger inside the cave with the tiger not there.” Young Do gets mad at Rachel’s implication that he is the fox and Tan is the tiger. He says to Rachel, “Perhaps the tiger was never really a tiger and left his cave because he was scared.”

 

Eun Sang is back home. There is no one there or any furniture. Landowner tells Eun Sang that her mom packed up to live in as the inhouse maid. Eun Sang asks for cellphone.
Mom tells Eun Sang to stay a sauna place since the master of the house is not feeling well.  “Come tomorrow to the house.” Eun Sang sits alone in the dark, empty house.

Back to the US, Tan is feeling lonely..although there's some friends came over the house. He's still checking Eun Sang SNS...looking at her photo with CY.

Hyun Joo is being told to not show any skin or perfume when she is tutoring Hyo Shin.
HS asks if HJ doesn’t get mad at his house. HJ says yes but she is getting paid well.

 

HJ gets a call from Won. HS asks why she isn’t picking up the phone.  She doesn’t answer him.
Won asks for a necklace, not ring at the jewelers.

Eun Sang finds out her mom took out the deposit for the house to give to sister. Sister called to say the marriage was fake. Eun Sang is angry mom didn’t yell at Eun Sang, but mom says how am I supposed to while tapping on the phone. Mom tells Eun Sang to wait. In the meantime JS comes home.

 

Mom asks Ki Ae how the affair trap for JS is going. Mom is basically threatening KA to let her daughter stay at the house.
Mom instructs Eun Sang to change into clean clothes. They are going to live here from now on.
JS and KA are fighting. JS is made that KA didn’t tell her about Tan’s dad being sick.  KA and JS argue about KA not being on the family registry and JS cant have children.

JS says that both KA and JS both don’t have children since Tan is not here by KA’s side anyway. KA says blood is thicker than water.
They stop fighting since Won reached home.
KA says to JS later after Won is gone that blood is thicker so let’s see how well Tan protects his mom going against Won.

Eun Sang brings water to Tan’s dad.  Won wordlessly motions her in. Eun Sang introduces herself as Hee nam’s daughter.

Won tells dad that he met tan. But dad says that no one at the party talked about Tan. “Free Tan from his exile.  Or I will. I know you were hurt so I looked away when you hurt Tan. But its been going on for too long.” Won- “it makes it sound like you raised me with love.” Dad says he is not asking Won, but telling him.

 

KA went to Won's room to ask about Tan. She is worried about Tan. Did he ask about her? Won says you don’t have phone? KA: Tan won’t pick up. KA wants Won to let Tan come back. He is only 18. Won says at 18, I was a the heir to jeguk and had 8% stock.

Tan remembers what Won said at the farm.

In the kitchenMom (HN) explains to Eun Sang the complicated family relationship. KA comes in and tell Eun Sang to not let anything about this house be known outside. KA says something mean about mom, but ES keeps her temper down and is nice and polite to KA, which is what HN wants.

 

ES finishes the dishes and finds her mom falling asleep ironing. ES puts her mom to sleep.
Next morning. ES has made herself at home. She give mom the souvenir from the US- the almonds. ES will work hard with her part time job to earn money and leave this house.
ES cries and apologizes for abandoning her. MOM just hugs Eun Sang, patting her on the back. She cries too and Eun Sang keeps apologizing.

 

ES works hard at the café. Pizza place. Tan looks at the Hollywood sign. AT the university, he doesn’t see Eun Sang’s note on the bulletin board. Poor Tan eats alone and poor eun sang is working hard to earn money.

Eun Sang calls CY to say she is going to pay him back. CY is coming back since vacation is about to be over.

 

KA wakes up. She says she hasn’t sleep well because she was worried about tan. Dad says KA was snoring. He asks KA if Tan wants to come back. KA says Tan didn’t  want to leave the U.S. Dad hints that Tan should come back. He asks if Tan is not coming back because he is scared of his brother.

KA calls Tan. Tan doesn’t. Voiceover.

Tan:“I always imaged the people lonely because I exist. I miss you dad. I miss you mom. I want to believe that you felt pain once after sending me away like that (to Won’s image.)”
Tan calls Secretary Yoon.

Tan gives his professor his essay book. Thanks him and bye! Tan wrote, one who wants to wear the crown, bear the crown.

Tan is at the airport,  Secretary Yoon has come to greet him.  Yoon says Tan grew tall. Says KA called four times. Dad will be happy. Tan says he will go see Won first.

 

Won is surprised to see Tan. Won asks how long his stay will be. Tan says he is here to stay. He missed his family. Won calls him a whiner. Tan says nothing Won fears will happen.

 

Won says a child of a mistress can’t make that decision. He says Tan threw away the chance Won gave him for them to have a good relationship. He says everyone takes Won’s side.

Outside, Won wants Yoon to find a hotel room for him.
KA is happy to see Tan. Dad just calmly, almost coldly that Tan should see, without even looking at his son.

 

Tan says his house was too big. Too bright in the day, too dark in the night. Dad says in the dark you can see the star better. Dad asks what Tan learned there. Tan says he just played around.  Dad tells Won to just go rest now in his room.
KA asks about Rachel but Tan avoids the question. The maid finds ES’s sock in Tan’s luggage and takes it to do laundry. Tan hangs up the dream catcher in his window.

 

Eun Sang sits outside. She takes picture of plane stub. “A way to provide evidence that it wasn’t a dream. Was I really there?” She writes on her SNS account. She and Tan stare at the sky.

Next day, Tan recognizes sneakers as familiar. He cocks his head. Eating breakfast, he hears Eun Sang’s ringtone. He misses seeing her, only her back. Eun Sang misses seeing Tan full on too.

Mom tells ES to leave the house at dawn since the mood in the house is bad, with Won not coming home and Dad being sick.

MS runs into Eun Sang coming out of Tan’s door. Seems he was out partying with Young Do all night. MS wonders if Tan ‘s family  moved.

At the convenience store, Young Do wait for his instant ramen. He sees Eun Sang, eyes barely open drink water and fall asleep outside. HE takes his ramen outside to eat in front of her. He eats.

 

Two kids run fighting with each other. Young Do tells the kids they are too loud. Someone is sleeping here! The kids start to cry so Eun Sang gets up and walks away, not even noticing  Young Do.  Young Do tells kids they are making fun of him for not having a mom, as the kids are crying “MOM!” MS came to pick him up. He told MS that these kids are making fun of him since he has no mom. MS: "Kids these days are really scary, did you get hurt?" Young Do: "My heart" (while looking at Eun Sang walking down the path)..then he yelled at the kids: Shut up!! (really like this scene..rofl)


BN is in the TV station, searching for her dad.  She runs into Kim Hee chul of super junior.

BN completely ignores Heechul after getting message from CY and seeing him. The two argue about who missed each other more. Oh my god, these two are disgustingly sweet. BN has forgotten all about her dad since CY is here.

 

BN, CY, and Dad  eat together at CY’s house. CY teases dad about getting girlfriend of his own.
Dad says about Tan to CY. CY casually talks about him but BN is nervous, pretending she doesn’t know him. CY finds this cute.

But BN thinks CY will break up with her, thinking he probably knows they dated before. She complains about this to MS. BN doesn’t want to talk about Tan or Rachel.

 

Tan sees Eun Sang’s message and replies she was really there. He can stand witness. Eun Sang texts him to log out. The two text back and forth, Tan teasing Eun Sang that she really wants him to appear.
They miss seeing each other. ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tan wonders why Eun Sang has stopped texting back. He sees Eun Sang’s mom wearing the “I love california shirt.”

KA is practicing English. Eun Sang has bought cheese for KA.  She notices KA wearing familiar socks. HN brings in the wrong wine and KA asks if HN can’t use her yes either. Eun Sang volunteers bring the wine. KA says sure, you need to earn your keep. HN wants to stop ES but ES says she has to earn her keep.

Eun Sang goes down into the winery. She says “Even wine is living the good life.”

 

Tan is outside still waiting for Eun Sang’s reply. Tan once again barely misses seeing ES, only her back again. Inside the house, he see a familiar silhouette. Tan tells mom he keeps seeing this young girl’s back.  KA says it is the maid’s daughter. “Cha Eun Sung?”

 

 KA says the daughter came here after her sister took the money. Tan wonders if this is his Eun Sang,  remembering back to sister. Reading back to Eun Sang’s message about wanting Jeguk to go down, Tan texts Eun Sang “What are you doing right now. Answer now!”  Eun Sang finally answers. “I’m drinking water.”

Tan runs downstairs to the kitchen. He stops outside the door, unsure and his anticipation holding him back. Tan peeks through the door and slowly sees ES standing there, drinking water.

 

I really love this episode..the story line is getting interesting since Tan came back to Korea...
