Lee Min Ho Begins His Military Enlistment

Friday, 12th May 2017 will be a date that will be remembered by all Minoz as our prince, Lee Min Ho started his military enlistment. 

According to regulations of the military alternative social workers, Lee Min Ho will be starting his service first before entering a training camp. He will then be admitted into a training camp and train for four weeks after he receives a schedule for his training from the Military Manpower Administration. He is set to enter a training camp sometime within this year.

In 2006, due to a car accident, the actor broke bones in his thighs and his ankle. Then in 2011, the actor was involved in another car accident, and ended up receiving a decision to serve his military service as a public service worker.

Lee Min Ho Talks About Enlisting Later In Life And Challenges He Foresees

Lee Min Ho talked about his thoughts and feelings as he approaches his military enlistment.

Through the May issue of @star1 magazine, he participated in a pictorial along with an interview. During the interview portion, he was asked, “How do you feel about your impending enlistment?”

He answered, “I thought I would be totally cool with it and I thought it would be nothing. But I do feel a bit sad, too.” He clarified, “It’s not about the fact that I have to enlist that makes me sad, but the fact that I’m at the end of my 20s.”

The interviewer commented, “It seems like enlisting late built up the Lee Min Ho that you are today.” Lee Min Ho agreed, saying, “If I’d gone early, I wouldn’t have been cast in ‘Boys Over Flowers‘ and my 20s probably wouldn’t have been as happy. I personally think that going later was a good choice for me.” He remained humble and added, “I’m lucky to have acted during a great era and I was able to get a lot of love overseas, and I’m happy that I was able to contribute to hallyu in my own way.”

Lastly, he was asked if there was anything he wanted to challenge himself with as a soldier. He replied with a bright smile, “Having a routine is going to be a great challenge for me in itself.” He didn’t forget about his supporters, saying, “I feel all the fans’ sadness and their support. I’d like to come back healthy and heal them again with a great project.”

Lee Min Ho has officially confirmed that he will be enlisting in the army in less than 4 weeks.

Insiders first leaked that Lee Min Ho will begin his mandatory military service on May 12, serving as a social worker in Gangnam. Lee Min Ho and his agency have now confirmed the news.

Lee Min Ho’s status as a social service worker stems from his injuries suffered from a serious car accident with Jung Il Woo in 2006. He had to get a metal rod inserted into his leg and also fractured his ankle.

Lee Min Ho’s agency, MYM Entertainment has made an official statement confirming the enlistment date and details.

Lee Min Ho gets attacked and pooped on by birds while filming documentary 'The Wild'

Following his DMZ experience, actor Lee Min Ho revealed another traumatic event he faced while filming for MBC's documentary 'The Wild.'

Broadcasted on April 3, Lee Min Ho participated as the presenter of the special documentary regarding the DMZ.  Surrounded by a flock of birds, the creatures landed a surprise attack on the star and even defecated on him.  "Guess my good looks aren't enough to repel them after all" joked Lee Min Ho.

Not only that, he was also ambushed by a massive army of seagulls.  Lee Min Ho responded, "I can still clearly hear the seagulls' terrifying cries, I think I'm going mad."  He explained, "It must have been tough even for the baby seagulls. They probably perceived us humans as unwelcomed visitors."

Netizens commented, "It's the birds' fault," "Bird excrement is considered good luck," "It must've been quite an experience, didn't know such a place existed in Korea," "It's supposed to be a documentary on nature and it seems Lee Min Ho appears in it most of the time."

Lee Min Ho Shares His Honest Thoughts As His Military Enlistment Approaches

While Lee Min Ho’s exact date of military enlistment is still in question, he talked about how he wants to film more works before enlisting.

On March 29, Lee Min Ho attended the press conference for MBC’s documentary “DMZ, The Wild” as the presenter. Not only did the actor narrate the whole program, which took about two years to film, he was also at the location of the filming to deliver important information to the viewers.

During the event, Lee Min Ho addressed the topic of his military enlistment, saying, “I think everyone feels the same way before enlisting. I feel like I will be separated for a while and I feel sad. As I am waiting for my enlistment date, I do have ambition regarding work and would like to film another project.”

Lee Min Ho Donates Generous Amount To Help With Clean Water Access For World Water Day

Actor Lee Min Ho has recently donated to the World Water Day event.

On March 9, the Korean Committee for UNICEF announced that Lee Min Ho’s donation platform PROMIZ donated 25 million won (approximately $22,000) for the upcoming World Water Day on March 22. This is the second time the organization has donated for the cause.

Lee Min Ho and PROMIZ donated 138 sets of emergency packs to the Korean Committee for UNICEF. The packs include 69 million water purifiers that enable 92,000 children around the world to drink clean water for one month.

UNICEF’s emergency packs are made up of relief products that are most needed by children who are in emergency situations such as war and natural disasters. Along with the water purifiers, the packs include 10,000 malnutrition treatments and 69,000 dehydration treatments.

In 2009, Lee Min Ho participated in UNICEF’s “Love Net” campaign by sending insecticide-treated mosquito nets to fight malaria. He then continued to consistently donate. In 2015, he donated 100 million won (approximately $87,000) to the Korean Committee for UNICEF under his fan club name Minoz in order to help with the Nepal earthquake emergency aid. He is also a member of the UNICEF Honors Club for his constant donations.

Along with the donation, Lee Min Ho stated, “Last year, Lee Min Ho and PROMIZ were able to offer clean water to many children through UNICEF. We will continue to be interested in those who need help all over the world. I will work hard so that the world can become a warmer place.”

- I feel it of course, since because each time i started to work on something, a project especially a drama or a movie, it become a big issue not only in South Korea but also in the world media. Language and Cultural differences seems to disappear and through my work visit, i can get to see my overseas fans who studied Korean, wanted to see Korea and wanted to know more, learning Korean Culture make me think "Is this the power of the 'Hallyu Star' from South Korea?"

◆ We are actually wondering about your latest project
- Right now i just took the offer of the drama SBS 'The Legend of the Blue Sea' that was scheduled to air in November. Probably i will go to Spain and another interview will be done and release from there. 

◆ It has been 3 years since SBS 'Heirs'
- Yes and i indeed still feel the nervousness. Especially for SBS 'The Legend of the Blue Sea', i will be taking a double role for the first time, not to mention as a genius con-artist in which the character should be able to show many colors and varieties. Personally, i hope my fans will support me, i will do my best, though not expecting so many things. 

◆ Do you perhaps have any message directed to International and Korean fans?
- I sincerely wanted to say Thank You to everyone who had stay with me throughout this time. I can always feel the good energy from all of you and learning a lot from all of you. And like what i always say, i hope everyone would be healthy and lead a happy life.

Lee Min Ho Discusses Acting With Jun Ji Hyun And 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics

 Lee Min Ho who was appointed as the honorary ambassador of the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics last year, recently sat down with @star1 to talk about the position as well as his upcoming drama “Legend of the Blue Sea” (tentative title), in which he stars with Jun Ji Hyun.

“It will have been 30 years since the Seoul Olympics in 1988. I have a lot of pride, holding a global event like the Winter Olympics and Paralympics in Pyeongchang, known for its scenery. Regardless of the ambassador position, as a Korean, I’m proud,” said Lee Min Ho.The actor said he wants to introduce Korea and Pyeongchang to the world through the Olympics, and hopes the athletes will be able to perform well without any injuries.

When asked about his upcoming drama “Legend of the Blue Sea,” Lee Min Ho says he’s really excited for it. “I’m looking forward to it too. The fact that I’m even appearing in the same project as Jun Ji Hyun is a huge honor. I’m looking forward to it a lot, and I can’t hide my excitement.”

Leaving a short message for fans, Lee Min Ho said, “I sincerely thank everyone for their unwavering support. The words ‘thank you’ can’t begin to express how I feel. My fans are like old friends of mine. Friends that, by their existence alone, are a comfort. I hope we can be together for a long time.
